About the assignment

A departing provider and an FMLA leave have left two south-central Missouri sites short, and they are looking for one full-time locum to hold the coverage until a permanent hire is made. The requisition carries an end date of 1 February 2027, but the client describes the need as ongoing.

You would work Monday to Friday across a community hospital and an outpatient surgery center, and occasionally a third location. Regular hours are 6:30a to 3p. Call is once a week plus one weekend a month, in house, and only at the hospital — the surgery center carries no call.

The work is general anesthesia and MAC, with epidurals, regional nerve blocks and central lines all listed as preferred rather than required. The narrative states plainly that there is NO neuro and NO cardiac, which contradicts the case-mix grid on the same requisition; we have gone with the narrative and are confirming with the client.

Two conditions worth knowing before you bid: there are NO guaranteed daily hours, with overtime only after your scheduled shift, and NO stipends are offered. The lunch break is 30 minutes and unpaid.

The easy parts: no license is required to bid, board eligible is accepted, BLS is the only certification required, and temporary privileges are available while the roughly 90-day credentialing runs.

Schedule

  • Full-time Monday to Friday, regular hours 6:30a–3p
  • Call once per week plus one weekend per month
  • Weekday call starts after scheduled cases, normally 3–5pm, and runs to 0700 the next day
  • Weekend call runs Friday 3pm through Monday 0700, with 24-hour shifts Saturday and Sunday
  • 30-minute lunch, unpaid
  • NO guaranteed daily hours. Overtime applies after your scheduled shift
  • The client wants full-time availability — they already have all the part-time candidates they need

Practice model

No advanced practice providers to supervise and no resident or teaching supervision. No support staff are supplied for the locum coverage. You would cover both sites, and occasionally a third; call is at the hospital only, as the surgery center is outpatient with no call.
